Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah has responded to former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ following his recent comments on social media restrictions.
On Sunday, Prachanda posted on Facebook criticizing the government’s move to restrict social media, calling it a “wrong step.” He stated that the protests announced by Gen Z youth for Monday were natural and justified, given the government’s corruption and decision to curb online freedom.
In response, Mayor Shah commented, “Once upon a time, TikTok was also banned. I was already mayor when you were the Prime Minister, yet nothing changed because of you. If I had been given just one day, I would have transformed Kathmandu’s rivers and canals.”
It may be recalled that during Prachanda’s leadership, the government had imposed a ban on TikTok, citing its negative impact on society.
Balen’s sharp remark has quickly gone viral, drawing widespread attention across social media. As of the time of writing, his comment has received nearly 50,000 likes and over 4,000 reactions.
